PE> Well, I disconnected my modem too late.

That explains it. At first I thought my modem was crook, then I

thought your modem had a funny init string and you'd realize it and

it would be fixed by tomorrow, but tomorrow it wasn't so I suffered

the 2400 baud download, thanking Ba'al that I'd cancelled a largish

echo very recently.

PE> Actually, I think the transformer is gone, as it was running

PE> burning ceramic smell that I get high on.

If it's the transformer, it was probably taken out by something

shorting its output - rectifier, cap (esp tantalum), regulator ic.

Out of interest, any idea how close the closest lightning strike

was?

Cheers
