After thinking about this a bit more it didn't make sense as you said you
were seeing 2400 baud connections at your end.



After experimenting I found that just having ATZ as the init string causes
it to connect at 2400. If I send it any other command as well everything
seems to work fine. My init string is now ATZ|~~~ATH0|.



So far I've connected at 26,400 and 24,000. Get youself a decent modem. One
that can connect at 28,800.
