BG> Dunno if you read the USR_MODEMS echo, but I know you read AUST_MODEMS, and
BG> nobody else has EVER reported similar problems with the Courier.
PE> I've heard it all before, with the Spirit. Everyone was saying
PE> how great it was, then I went and bought one, and then started
PE> telling everyone why it was a heap of shit.
BG> But Paul, the Spirit had several specifically documented deficiencies, some
BG> of which I've even experienced myself. I really wish I was in a position
BG> to come and check your entire system and its setup.
No, *I* documented them.
BG> Maybe Paul's place is jinxed...
PE> I've seen you going head-first into my telephone line and
PE> now even supernatural beings in my house. Funny you never
PE> mentioned these possibilities when I had a Spirit, which
PE> was having FAR more success than this modem.
BG> Unless the particular Courier you're using has some obscure fault, I still
BG> don't believe that your current problems are modem-related. I've had more
BG> exposure to Couriers than 90% of people in Australia, and I've NEVER had
BG> occasion to blame the modem for anything such as you describe.
More than 99.9% I would expect, so what?
PE> In fact, the success of the Spirit is enough to prove that
PE> the Courier has a fixable deficiency.
BG> Nope, I refuse to believe that the Couriers are basically flawed. My own
BG> experiences with USRs suggests quite the opposite. Have you checked your
BG> serial I/O card yet? Or your serial cable?
How can they affect what transpires between two modems? And
what do you want me to check in my serial cable? That CTS/RTS
work? I *know* they work, otherwise I would be overrunning my
modem with data, when people connect to me at 14400 and I send
data at 57600.
BG> I also have to ask the question: why hasn't Dave Drummond experienced any
BG> of the problems about which you're complaining? Think about it.
For the same reason that Dave Hatch never had the Spirit
problems until *I* documented, and Trev Roydhouse never had
any Spirit problems until *I* documented them. Wait till I
start pressuring USR Courier owners in the echo. The lack
of auto-baud detect is the most straightforward to test. The
next will be letting Frank and Rod loose on them.
Hey Frank, want to sell your shitty 2400/1200 bps modem? I
think I can make it work here. BFN. Paul.
