Seen at the PNE... an example of how judgement precludes
perception. In one of the washrooms I found a paper towel holder with some
rather ambiguous instructions. The first time I used it, I was baffled
initially but managed to figure out what was meant within (I would guess)
fifteen seconds. When another woman came along who looked equally baffled
I explained the instructions to her
... whereupon we enjoyed a good chuckle & a pleasant chat together.
Both of us learned something as well. The next time either of us
encounters a paper towel holder like that we'll know how to use it. But my
story doesn't end there. As James Redfield & others have commented,
life on earth is a wealth of contrasts.
Several hours later I used the same washroom again. As I
approached the paper towel holder this time, though, a second woman barged
in front of me. I caught a glimpse of a mid-thirtyish face together with a
fashionable shade of improbably blonde hair cut straight below the ears...
I heard her exclaim "This is silly!"... and then she was gone. I
have no idea where she went, or how she got her hands dry. Apparently it's
possible to learn that way. But as for me, I find it much more productive
to keep muddling along in the slow lane.... :-)
