Steve, I, too, spend my winter months *&* summer months (and all months
between!  :)  making compost.  I compost everything I come by that *will*
compost!  If you garden very much, it is a necessity, unless you are willing
to buy soil conditioners.  And, we *do* have oak and pine in Tulsa, but they
are few and far between, in comparison to South Alabama (and many other
points on this continent!   :)  One of my favorite dressings for a bed us 
ine
needles, something one must be prepared to pay dearly for, here in Tulsa.
