Sometime you have to get a utility knife, and cut it open, and then some
shrink wrap is good to have.  That is black rubber tubing that shrinks and
insulates when heated with a small flame or torch.  Don't worry about how
ugly your work is, just go for it.
Haven't encountered anything yet that I can't cut open and get down to the
wires.
o Start with a multi meter, and find out which wire is shorting, and
  re-soldier it
o Open your radio and check you plug connector as well with a multi meter,
  it could be there as well.
