I think you might be confused about what they are saying here.  They 
are talking about cordless phones and not cellular phones. 
 
As for digital cellular phones, they do perform similar to the analog 
ones in range, but when you reach the fringe of the cell, instead of 
static, you will have breaks in the sound.  There is a slightly 
clearer conversation, due to the fact that it is digital, this is 
along the same lines as the CD's for the music community.
