                            Defenders of Zentax
                        Version 0.87 - Public Beta 1
                                  ---------
                                 / Story /
                                ---------

An evil race of aliens has invaded the galaxies, attempting to "better" the
universe by enslaving all races to their home worlds forever. Naturally,
this was unacceptable. Eight nearby worlds sent thousands of their ships to
intercept the incoming fleets, only to be utterly obliterated. With no way
to protect themselves now, slave-shields were put into place around those
worlds, restricting space travel to a small few sectors around their
planets.
All communication between worlds has now ceased. Scientists are baffled by
the technology used to create the powerful shields, which block every form
of communication imaginable. This corner of the universe is now silent,
aside from the few alien warships which still patrol the area. No one
knows where the massive fleet has headed now. The best guess is they moved
on to another area of space, enslaving other worlds.
The isolated worlds slowly get back on their feet, rebuilding space stations
and ships. Scientists from the planet Zentax scurry to sign up for the
newest exploration crafts, eager to study the slave-sield up close. During
one of these many useless missions, a derelict ship is discovered. Being of
the same design as the alien warships, the Zentaxian military quickly towed
the craft into orbit of their planet, and sent in their top scientific minds
to strip it of all of it's technology.
Just a month later, after proving this alien race was indeed a rather
ignorant one, who had stolen and assimilated other technologies as their
own, a new method of space travel was found. By opening 'tears' in space, a
ship was capable of traveling outside the slave-shields, and into other
regions of space. It wasn't long before new ships were created with this
technology built in. Scientists from Zentax traveled to the other enslaved
worlds, sharing this technology and forming a new alliance, the Alliance of
Free Planets.
Soon, the alien fleets return to the area, sending massive patrols through
all sectors. Discovering that their technology had been stolen, the aliens
attacked once more, but the new Zentaxian Delta-class fighers, equipped with
weaponry and shielding from the derelict craft, fought back. Though other
worlds were overtaken, Zentax and a few others held their ground.
Now to the present. Fresh from the academy, you have decided to join the AFP
in an attempt to run the aliens from your galaxy for good. Rumors have
spread that the aliens are coming up with a way to overtake Zentax and the
other members of the Alliance. It is up to you, and those like you, to find
out their plan, and to stop it.

This is the first public beta of Defenders of Zentax. It is an overhead
ANSI RPG set in the distant future, which will span across eight planets,
space, other ships, and space stations. This game will definately be HUGE
when completed, and should take a while for players to finish.
Since this is the initial beta, there is only a small portion of what I
mentioned above in the game. But this will quickly change, as I release
new betas as often as possible. This release is mainly to test the game
engine itself. It plays on an overhead map view, with the TDF(Text Data
File) script language running along under it. This allows anyone who wishes
to create their own worlds to do so, by using an ordinary text editor and
the included Map Editor.
Here's a few of the features available now, or that will be very soon:
 - Realtime player updating.
 - Chat Mode! If the person isn't playing, you can still 'Leave a note'.
 - Large areas to explore, which will be greatly increased before the final
   release.
 - Players can get ships, from which they can explore space.
 - Players can increase their level to a maximum of 15.
 - Random events/enemy fights occur during travel.
 - The game will automatically save all data in the case of a dropped
arrier.
 - Completely changable! You can alter just about every aspect of the game
by editing TDF files and changing map screens.
 - Uses an 'auto color' system when entering ~ color codes, which means the
color changes automatically, allowing you to see how your text will look
   as you type it!
 - Easy to learn script language.
 - Map editor is included, so you can edit the available maps, and even
   create your own.
 - The editor includes a test feature, so you can play your stages while
editing them! A very handy feature when you need to check something,
without exiting and starting the game.
 - Players can 'mask' themselves, meaning they are invisible to other
   players.
 - Continuous game play. This means when one person wins the game, they
are the only person to be reset.
 - Unlimited number of map files can be used! This means you could create
an add-on as large as you wanted, and never have to worry about running
out of room. Just link them together with 'special' blocks.
 - The pos.dat file is automatically updated every day at maintenance,
making sure it matches the locations set in player.dat.
 - Inactive players are deleted after the number of days you decide.
 - Players always have their PA-32(Personal Assistant v3.2) companion droid
with them, where they can send mail, and use other features it will have
   in the future.
And most importantly... This version is completely free! :) All I want for
this version is your opinion. Tell me about a certain feature you liked, or
even one you didn't like. Even give me suggestions on things you would like
to see in future versions. There's still a lot of time to add things. I
won't add the registration parts to the game until I think it's far along
enough to deserve them. For now, I want as many people as possible testing
ALL of the game, not just unregistered parts.
