subject: Question #2!

Hi Gerald,
(Sunday April 12 1998 11:57) Gerald Miller to Ted Menks about: Question #2!
TM>>>> That certainly beats any batch I could hammer together ;-)))
GM>>> We don't like to talk about hammers either -- I wouldn't want to
 GM>>> be giving them ideas....  :^}}
TM>> ByeBye, Trini Lopez, heh? ;-)
 GM> Who?
:) That's exactly what I mean
GM> Yup! I get an new ASCII Nodelist from my boss and I want to move it to
my
GM> \NODELIST directory and at the same time, I want to move the old
odelist
GM> to my \OLDNODE directory (so there is only one nodelist for that
GM> particular Net in the directory at one time).
GM> I had tried using the extension of the file, the date of the file, the
GM> size of the file and tried a comparison test of the two, with less
GM> than spectacular results. I think if I can use the date of the two
iles
GM> to do the comparison testing, this may yield more promising results.
GM> Have you got a solution?
Although the story seems to be a bit vague, where details are concerned, I
think I might be able to help.
First, I expect your boss not to send you an update that's older than the
last one you've already recieved earlier. If this is true, things become VERY
simple.
Second, I assume the file to be named NODELIST.???. Any other name may be
used, ofcourse, but the *only* thing wthat will change every time, is the
extension. The *name* will always be the same (if this happens for only ONE
zone or net, ofcourse).
If this all is true, the following would work:
iff exist INBOUND\nodelist.* then
  move NODELIST\nodelist.* OLDNODE
  move INBOUND\nodelist.* NODELIST
endiff
Ofcourse, you'll have to adjust path- and filenames, for this to work.
If it *doesn't* work for you at all, please tell me, and we'll discuss plan
B, and even plan C, if it comes to that ;-))))
Talk to you later,

... If at first you don't succeed, have somebody else do it for you!
