RELEASE 2003-030: FORMER NASA EXECUTIVE PLEADS GUILTY TO THREE
FELONIES

On March 31, 2003, Jeffrey Scott Lavell of Yorktown, Virginia, pled
guilty in United States District Court, Norfolk, Virginia, to one
count each of sexual exploitation of a child, transportation of child
pornography by computer, and receipt of child pornography by computer 
using NASA-owned computers and network facilities. Lavell is a former 
NASA Executive at NASA's Langley Research Center, Hampton, VA.

This investigation was conducted by Special Agents of the NASA Office 
of Inspector General and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The 
prosecution was handled by Arenda L. Wright Allen, Assistant United 
States Attorney, Eastern District of Virginia, in Norfolk.
