I stopped buying NiCad some years ago. My children kept
mistaking them for regular batteries and tossing them into the
garbage. I decided to give up. :-\

I never have been familiar with the details of motherboard
electronics but know enough to understand your reply. 

If I ever had a need to alter the electronics I would require
the assistance of people who have kept up with the details. Not
sure I can see well enough to solder in a diode or even a
resistor anymore. Haven't tried in many many years now.
