1237c46ebc85 tech Hello David - --8<--cut CA>> The 'information' I was referring to was that there are CA>> problems between the Island's original inhabitants and the CA>> more recent immigrants. DD> The indigenous inhabitants are making claims to the more DD> "valuable" hunks of land in recent years. This does seem to DD> piss off the "non-indigenous" people who have been living DD> on that land for a generation or two. How many generations of Aborigines lived on that same land prior to the arrival of the "non-indigenous" persons? DD> Much of the strife evades me as to its cause - other than DD> that (some of) the indigenous persons have developed a DD> "hand out" mentality. Yes, people say that about the American Indians too. Funny thing is some ancestor of the present day land owners jumped off of a boat here and claimed square miles of land as belonging to him just because he didn't see any fences? From the American Indian's perspective allowing him to use the land was a "handout" until there were so many jumping off of boats the Indians were begining to feel they were being taken advantage of and wanted it to stop. Of course it never stopped, obviously, and we put the Indians where no one else wanted to live (deserts, swamps, etc.). The "landed aristorcracy" of the UK leases the real estate under most of London and therefore are not required to work for a living. Another "hand out"? Seems lots of people have their hands out and complain if anyone else extends theirs. :-) It was considered so very rude of the American Indians to not want to give us their land that they were slaughtered then we make movies about the heroic soldiers who fought the Indians. We even took what the Indians considered holy ground after promising not to (the Lakota's). Something like watching the rich build condominiums on top of your mother's gravesite? I'm betting we will maintain control of the oil fields in Iraq for decades and then accuse the Iragi's of having a "hand out mentality" if they complain about it.
