ET> What compilers for C/C++ are available for OS/2? I ET> recently upgraded from Win95 to OS/2 Warp Connect, and ET> would like to port some of my C/C++ code. Thanks for ET> any help. Yup, that's a SERIOUS upgrade there... :-) A few questions... your code... what was it? DOS or GUI? If GUI, did it use classes (MFC or OWL)? If it is DOS, there won't be alot of effort in switching to OS/2 text. If it was OWL, the only choice for next-to-no porting effort is the Borland for OS/2. If it is MFC, from what I've been able to tell, it will be a major effort to completely rewrite it. If it is just using API calls, it will be another good effort to rewrite it... At any rate, compilers for OS/2: Most people seem to recommend IBM's Visual Age C++ 3.0. I have a demo version that I have yet to try, but their OpenClass sounds like IBM's cross-platform answer to MFC (and, rumour has it that OpenClass is more OO than MFC ever dreamt of being). I currently use Watcom C/C++ 10.5 - while it doesn't have a class library for OS/2, it does have cross-platform support: it compiles for DOS (16 and 32 bit), Windows (16 and 32 bit), and OS/2 (16 and 32 bit), as well as a few other things (QNX?). I miss the class library, though. :-/ I also use the GNU port for OS/2: EMX (currently at 0.9b, fix #3). Note: there are other compilers, such as those from MetaWare and Vispro, however I have heard very little from them. --- Maximus/2 3.01* Origin: Tanktalus' Tower BBS (PVT) (1:342/708) SEEN-BY: 50/99 78/0 270/101 620/243 711/401 409 410 413 430 808 809 934 955 SEEN-BY: 712/407 515 517 628 713/888 800/1 7877/2809 @PATH: 342/5015 61 3615/50 396/1 270/101 712/515 711/808 809 934 |
