Our doctors are governemnt employees on salary. The base pay is
$162.50 per hour for GPs, so $1300 per standard workday, $325,000
per year. Specialists make considerably more, plus there is overtime
pay, call out pay, extra evening and weekend pay and generous travel
allowances when they go out to clinics in smaller communities for
locums. And of course they have no expenses or unbillable hours
unlike a doctor who is the owner and manager of a private clinic.
The doctors we attract tend to be young, well trained, fond of the
outdoors, extremely healthy, athletic and fairly altruistic with
pleasant personalities. (They also make wonderful real estate
clients.)
