Paul, at 19:24 on Jan 21 1996, you wrote to All... PE> 3. This could be because I PE> had not issued a "mode" command to the modem, I haven't tried PE> again yet. Why did you do that !?!?!? You can't lock your DTE to a speed lower than the modem's highest link rate. It won't work, as you've already discovered. OS/2 is quite happy with 57600, or even 115200 if you prefer. Incidentally, now might be a bloody good time to add the following line to your config.sys: RUN=MODE COM2:57600,N,8,1,DTR=OFF,RTS=HS,OCTS=ON,TO=ON,XON=OFF,BUFFER=ON Edit COMn:57600 to suit your own requirements, although 38400 is too low with compressed files, as this will limit your cps rates to no more than 3840 bps (tried a V.34+ here on Friday, and it was running EXACTLY 4000 cps on a zip file, 33600 bps connect, no compression active...). :) PE> 1. The code in the flash rom of the USR is Australian code about PE> a year old. Is there later Australian code? Yes, David Drummond and Poe Lim both have it for freq. PE> Can I use American code instead? Both official and unofficial stories. PE> Actually, semioffical stories too. It won't work, as the SDL does a checksum on the country code of the existing ROM code. If you try, it just barfs, and won't erase the original code. PE> 3. My USR has been set up as follows: PE> AT&F1 PE> ATS56=0 PE> AT&W PE> And from then on, ATZ. Looks fine to me, but don't forget to check the DIP switches beneath the modem as well. These should be set to 3, 5 & 8 ON, all others OFF. Regards, Bill --- Msgedsq/2 3.20* Origin: Logan City, SEQ (3:640/305.9) SEEN-BY: 640/305 711/934 |
