I am not disputing the accuracy of Matt's story, only his use of it in 
his argument.

I would have to question as to whether they can *actually* do this 
legally in the first place.  Was she denied acceptance for lying on her 
application or because she killed mommy?  (rhetorical question)  Either 
way, it doesn't appear to be a standard application question.

Right.......and I was thinking today (really) what if I were a 
murderer and wanted to check out some colleges.  I'd call them and say, 
"Hello, my name is Dan Triplett, perhaps you read about me in the 
Seattle Intelligencer.  I was wondering what your policy is on admitting 
convicted murderers?"
