Hello Roy -
WC>> I need to snag that cable. I've got both the other cables
WC>> but not a 9 pin - 9 pin serial cable.
CA>> The null serial isn't needed if you have laplink cables.
CA>> Even DOS can use laplink cables. :-)
WC>> I don't even know what a laplink cable is.
RJT> I forget if it's "INTERLINK" or "INTRSRV" or whatever the
RJT> heck the dos stuff is that's close to that...
The programs interlnk.exe and intersvr ("vr" not "rv") are
supplied as a part of MSDOS IOW they are 'free'. FileMaven
and Total Commander (and others) will use laplink parallel
cables for faster transfers than serial can achieve.
From MSDOS v6.22 help:
============== INTERLNK
Connects two computers via parallel or serial ports and enables
the computers to share disks and printer ports. For example,
you could connect a laptop computer to a desktop computer and
share files. You must install the device driver
(in config.sys) before you can use this command.
==============
--8<--cut
RJT> There was a time when I'd *make* such a cable, but they're
RJT> commonly available and these days I'd probably just buy
RJT> one, maybe.
The parts would cost more than a factory manuf cable, I know I
was going to make one not long ago but bought one instead. :-)
My eyesight isn't up to the job anymore and working with a
mag-glass-light is annoying and awkward (for me).
