Trying to do too much yesterday to get Win 3.1 up and running on a much abused and reconfigured 486 I cut the crap out my right hand on the chassis tugging on the dead CMOS battery while applying a soldering iron to it. Only the deeper cut remains open 12 hours later with the larger shallower one already closed up. Three days from now there'll be no sign of either wound. I kept on working on the machine wrapping a couple wraps of tissue around my wrist to catch drippage. Once I hook up an external CMOS battery that machine should be good to go in a minimalist fashion. I need to read the docs for the Promise Tech BIOS'ed I/O card I'd added to reconfigure it to replace the existing I/O So I can use the 40X acer CD-ROM instead of the Creative propietary sound card CD-ROM interface. All the software is already setup for the ACER drive on another machine so it's easier to check the docs and rejumper and move the drive cables. Got to check and see if there's a jumper to disable on motherboard I/O but either way I expect it'll work given my experience with that I/O card. Previously I was just using the BIOS and for that all you need do is slap it into an ISA slot. I believe you can hook it up to the IRQ for secondary primary drive which the mainboard I/O lacks so I'm confident in any case. CA> At the time of my shoulder injuries I was still in pretty good CA> shape. I may have made a mistake in turning down the surgery. I doubt it would have been a good idea even them. Dr. Wassel is an extremely well repected orthopedic surgeon and he advised againt it and that's good enough for me. This dude was an airforce major and had more degrees from more universities and other credentials then I've ever seen on anyones office wall before or since. You did have to look out for his handshake though as being a bone breaker it was... well let's just say an order of magnitude beyond firm. The guy wasn't overly wordy but he did lay it out straight for you and let you make the call. I'm however annoyed I did not push harder for a spinal fusion when I was more mobile but another doctor, I'd tried to get Wassel, refused to do it citing morbidity rates. Wassel wasn't on the Voc. Rehab's approved list however the quack that did operate on me _was_ :-( Would have been a walk in the park for me in 95, today I'm quite sure it would kill me. --- Platinum Xpress/Win/WINServer v3.0pr5* Origin: FidoTel & QWK on the Web! www.fidotel.com (1:275/311) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 275/311 10/345 106/1 2000 633/267 |
