1237c4315ee2 tech Hello Roy - --8<--cut JN>> It's too bad England and the U.S. didn't do the same with JN>> french words hundreds of years ago. RJT> There aren't that many, are there? If you lump all of the 'romance languages' (Latin based) together English is 60% derived from those. Some of what appear to be French words are equally Spainish-based, or Italian-based words. The pronounciation varies more than the spellings from one romance language to another. The British 'empire' wasn't just sucking up the natural resources of it's 'colonies' it was constructing it's language as well from bits and pieces taken from others. That and being conguered many times in it's past plus inter-marriage of the 'royal families'. At one time the Russian nobility were cousins to the British nobility who refused them asylum during the Russian revolution (guaranteeing they would all be killed btw). > > , , > o/ Charles.Angelich \o , > __o/ > / > USA, MI < \ __\__ ___ * ATP/16bit 2.31 * ...
