i have to agree with him... some of it comes right down to the format that
the data is sent back to the client... some clients can't work with VMS
structured output... others will only work with UNIX structured output...
when i say structured, i mean "traditional" as in how that
particular one has been since it started...

dale ross, sysop of 1:379/1 and 1:379/45, sees this problem every day... he
has to operate more than one FTP server so that some folk can use their
client to access what they need and others can use the other... and its all
because of the format of the output... dale may be able to give us more
info on this... on the other hand, just recently, i saw sample outputs from
numerous ftp servers and thought i had written it down for later use (like
now)... hummm...
