Congrats to Phil Niekro for finally making the cut. It's too bad that he
couldn't have made it last year....
Well, as usual, I'm going to throw some fuel to the fire. What idiots found
Phil deserving but removed several others from future consideration by not
including them in more than 5% of the ballots. Good grief, there's some guys
that really deserve some future consideration that will NEVER get a chance,
even from the Veterans Committee, to come close enough. One that was
particularly galling is Nettles (I'm not saying that they all deserved a
chance but geez, Nettles?).
I thought that he'd have to hang on and fight like Santo but now, he won't
even have that chance. I'm not even a Yankees fan and I can see the injustice
done in this case. I've been particularly p.o.'d at the writers for many
injustices but this one is the last straw. I'm so tired of the writers, whose
only qualification for the job is being a member of the BBWA for 10 years,
screwing men out of their well deserved place in history. These are the same
people that want to screw guys out of awards because they won't grant them
interviews and then they stand there with their holy-than-thou looks,
expecting us to believe that Phil Niekro wasn't deserving last year but he is
this year and Nettles isn't worthy of future consideration. The HOF is a joke
-- no, it's a travesty. It's OUR HOF and we deserve the right to honor OUR
legends. NOW, more than ever, it's time that the HOF takes away their voting
rights and give it to the people who really care about the game and not the
politics of it -- the fans. We deserve a HOF that is populated by the people
that deserve it and not the ones that the writers think are worthy. DAMN THEM
and all of their kind.
