That's one opinion registered. I also have the right to an opinion without
being declared close minded.
Yes, when it comes to paying more for a given of equipment than a real
audio version of it is, I'd say that someone has extremely inflated concepts
of what has value. "Engineer" in car audio means one who has learned to use a
hole saw, and generally has little conception of what really goes into
engineering anything, and the ears of most of those trying to claim direct
comparison of car audio with pro or even home stereo is the ones that are
close minded, to what is really possible with sound. Yes, a car stereo CAN
sound good, but it requires much effort and few are really qualified to
produce it.
I've been designing sound systems internationally for longer than I care to
admit, and have mixed live sound for hundreds of concerts of world class
artists. The reason is because I am a classically trained musician in
addition to having studied acoustics since childhood, accepted by audio
professionals you read about as a peer, also know enough about electronics to
design and build my own equipment from scratch (and have) and have
exceptional hearing abilities (along the lines of perfect pitch). That's not
brag, that's fact. I think that there is some ability to judge what I hear
sound quality wise in there somewhere. Compared to the systems I work with on
a daily basis, 99.5% of all car audio is CRAP, plain and simple, due to lack
of abilities of the installer, quality of the equipment, and the environment
involved.
With relatively limited experience, car stereos probably do sound good to
you, and that is fine. If it does it for you, then who cares, as long as it
sounds good to you, but do not confuse educated open ears with
closemindedness because you may lack the ability, experience and effort to
hear the inabilities of the hardware you listen to.
