The only advantage of an NT system for Toaster users is the ability to
run ScreamerNet, a program from NewTek that only runs on NT-based
computers, which handles Lightwave rendering much faster than the
Amiga's older, slower CPU. Last I'd heard, ScreamerNet required Mips
based NT systems and wasn't available for the Alpha, so I'd check
before buying that cool computer that it will work for you. You'll
also need a networking card in both the NT and Amiga/Toaster computers
so that you can connect them with a local network cable.

For editing, there's the Flyer!
If you already have the Toaster, why would you want to sell it and get
something else for the PC? My understanding is that there are no
comparable quality switcher/CG/paint systems available for IBM
compatible computers at the same price - you either have to pay a lot
more, or accept a lot less than the Toaster offers.
As far as your 1970 questions, maybe you should take both of them into
a repair shop: show them how clear the one looks, and ask if they
could fix the other so it would look as clear. The reason I suggest
bringing in the good one is that otherwise they might not believe that
there's a problem with the other one - not expecting as much as you've
seen from that model.
... Parentheses - a bad habit, but I'm trying to bracket.
