Kathy,
KJ> The poor baby Jenday--I can't get her brooder cool enough. It's 92.5F in
KJ> there. She's 5 weeks old, 1/2-way feathered, VERY heavily down-
Suggestion: Take her out of the brooder and put her in one of those plastic
baskets with all the holes.
Several years ago when I worked in a pet shop we had trouble with crop
impactment because of the heat. Soon as we realized what was causing it the
owner installed an AC. The problem was immediately solved.
I don't know how the parents get away with it...when they breed in the heat.
When I had the cockatiels and lovebirds I always pulled the boxes in June.
Even if it meant handfeed 25 babies.
I was so sure it was too hot to lay eggs that I didn't notice that the
Scarlets were a bit more protective than they were. Looked in the box and
there were two eggs. I guess there is no reason for them to sit on them. They
ca just turn them when needed. Plus, the Great Bills laid again, and the
Orange Wings. This is driving me crazzzzzy.
They say that it is cooler up there now.
