From: Pete Donahue
Subject: braille study groups
As of this past national convention, I was appointed a contact person for
the atinal Assocation to Promote the Use of Braille (NAPUB, a division of
the National Federation ofthe Blind, representnig the state of Texas.
Many local chapters around the country have started Braille classes around
the country, and I am interested in hearing from people who have started
such Braille study groups. What Braille reading series is used? Are any
teaching tools used as models to demostrate the Braille alphabet? Should
the Braille writer and the slate and stylus be taught at the time? Do
these groups meet at someone's home or is a rented space in the community
used?
If anyone has the answers to the above questions, I would appreciate
hearing from you! My goal is to try to start such a group after the first
of the year.
In addition, I should also let you know that I am also an NLS-certified
proofreader, and havebeen for the past years, o if there is anyne has
questions about the Braille transcribing and proofreading course r about
formatting something in Braille, please let me know. I am usually
available evenings after 6 P.M. and all day Thursdays and Fridays.
Thank you for your attention, and have a nice evening!
Cordially yours,
Mry Donahue
