Hi, Dave.
DH> I think that its just a matter of time before it's reveiled that
DH> Fury DID fake his death, due to the Fury film on the agenda, & that
DH> his passing in the slick covered over the edge 2 issue series, was
DH> very poorly done.Frankly, Fury did more to unify the 1940s era
DH> marvel universe, then even cap & subby did. He was more down to
DH> earth.I liked the firsr shield series back in 68-69, but the new
DH> one did'nt grab me.Its really a shame that Steranko never returned
DH> to the character. He really made Fury his.Lets see if the 2 part
DH> agent 13/fury mini series sees him return to the land of the
DH> living.
I think there's a very good possibility that Nick Fury will be
revealled to be alive in the upcoming Fury/Agent 13 mini-series.
'Bout time too, if you ask me...
I agree with everything you've said about Fury. I've long held
the belief that Nick Fury and SHIELD should be the glue that binds the
Marvel Universe together. The cold war may be over... but that
doesn't mean SHIELD or Fury are obsolete, IMO. With all the alien
invasions, super-organized crime outfits out there and other threats
to Earth and more specifically, the USA, I think Fury & SHIELD could
take a more active role in the Marvel Universe. I could see them
being useful in a "first on the scene"-type of scenario where they
gather/supplyinformation for/to the Avengers, Fantastic Four, Heroes
For Hire, X-Men... whoever. I could also see SHIELD being given
certain powers, allowing them the ability to call in specific
government-sanctioned super-heroes/super-teams as the situation
warrants it. I don't see that as being a terribly radical change in
the role SHIELD has fulfilled up till now. The world's political
landscape may have changed quite a bit from the 1960s, when SHIELD,
was formed... but I think there's a very definite need for them in the
modern-day Marvel Universe too.
Talk to you later.
David
