From your descriptions, this seems like the way to go..  Is this something
that would only work with a specific compiler, or would it be possible to
use it with Watcom or Visual C++?  (the only two I have access to, right
now)

This is unfortunate... :(  I guess I'll just have to get through this
project as quickly as possible in order to move on to bigger and better
things..
