Hello All DOS, and OS/2 users...
I am doing a little research to decide if publishing a product is worth it
or not. First the product, then the question.
The product is a programmers editor. It handles color syntax highlighting
for multiple languages including:
C,C++, **INTEL Assembly language**, Motorola 68000 assembly language, &
Fortran. (considering next PERL, and JAVA color syntaxing for future...).
You also have control over customizable pulldown and popup menus. These
menus are specific to the current file type. For example if you are editing
a C++ file you're C++ menu will appear when you right click, and you'll
have a C++ menuoption from the main menu. If you are editing an 80xxx
assembly language file you'll have a main menu option specific to
80xxx.likewise for the popups. This is not a wanna be option this one is
allready included. The menus are configured very simply to call your
favorite compilers, assemblers, linkers, debuggers, and even to run your
final version when it is done...
The Macro system is very good. It allows you to define up to 256 macros per
file type (and also for files it doesn't recognize[default]) for a total of
1536 macros, and each macro is limited in size only by the size of your
harddrive. These macros are also global, so you can open multiple files
with them, perform any menu commands, or whatever. Because of the macro
system it is also extremely suited for creating/editing HTML files. This
Editor can be fully customized in colour and functionality to suit your
needs for _any_ programming language. Additionally users will find it's
functionality far more convient for editing even regular ascii text.
Yes, I know there are other editors out there that do colour syntax
highlighting, I (and a team of people) were required to develop this
application for a local college anyways, and were given the rights to do
with it what we wished, so why not.. It's advantage over the others is it
will be very low in price for the initial release, and free for all of the
alpha and beta testers.
The question is is there anybody out there that would use an editor of this nature.
If you think there might be a place for this, but I've included too much
support for other languages, or not enough support in some areas then
please let me know. If there is anything you would like to know about the
editor, or if you just want to try it also please let me know. The editor
is still in it's alpha. If you would be interested in being an
alpha/beta-tester or just have comments, or suggestions of what else to
include or change then respond to this message, or email me at <
prider{at}aurora.carleton.ca >.
Mr. Moderator. I'm hoping that because this message is in some way related
to this area that it will be tolerated, if not then please netmail and I
will cease any such postings.(this is my first of this topic in this area).
