You can not convert the old keys to a new key. One had to ask the author
for a new key. The original author has left FidoNet long ago. But as
Wilfred alreadyt indicated, he parted with the source which is now
publically availlable. Willfred compiled the GPL version in which the check
for keys was dropped.

How exactly does it indicate that it is not registered?
