Paul, at 08:43 on Jan 22 1996, you wrote to Bill Grimsley... PE> I decided to set the baud rate to 19200 in Binkley rather than 38400 BG> Why did you do that !?!?!? You can't lock your DTE to a speed lower than PE> Because of problems with V32bis callers, it was an attempt to PE> disable the higher speeds. When that didn't work I tried &N8. Yeah, &Nn is the correct way to do that. The DTE should remain constant. BG> RUN=MODE COM2:57600,N,8,1,DTR=OFF,RTS=HS,OCTS=ON,TO=ON,XON=OFF,BUFFER=ON PE> mode com3:38400,n,8,1,idsr=off,odsr=off,octs=on,rts=hs,dtr=on,to=off,buffer PE> =on PE> Quite different from what I'm using. Why do I need to change PE> what I have above? Mainly because if you type MODE COM3 at an OS/2 prompt (before running anything which sets the serial port parameters), you'll note that many of those settings are already at their default values, and are basically redundant. The ones I have listed are the only values which need changing from OS/2's defaults. BTW, you do have RUN= before your MODE commmand, I trust? Won't work otherwise. PE> Can I use American code instead? Both official and unofficial stories. PE> Actually, semioffical stories too. BG> It won't work, as the SDL does a checksum on the country code of the BG> existing ROM code. If you try, it just barfs, and won't erase the original BG> code. PE> What happens if I decide to emigrate to USA? We'd all breath a sigh of relief, I'd imagine. :) Seriously, your modem would work fine, but you'd still need to obtain and use the 061 SDL regardless. BG> Looks fine to me, but don't forget to check the DIP switches beneath the BG> modem as well. These should be set to 3, 5 & 8 ON, all others OFF. PE> 9 was also on, so I switched it off. BFN. Paul. Switch 9 controls the way the Courier responds to the +++ escape code. If off, the modem drops carrier and issues the OK response. If on, the modem stays on line, but in command mode (ATOn resumes the connect). Check the manual. Regards, Bill --- Msgedsq/2 3.20* Origin: Logan City, SEQ (3:640/305.9) SEEN-BY: 640/305 711/934 |
