I'm sure no expert on this but I think as long as you're cloning instead of 
copying you should be ok.
I recall Stereophile having several major problems getting their demo cd's 
mastered from DAT's.  I think that is more of a copying process than a 
cloning 
though.
I'd sure be interested in your findings.
