Frequently a good idea - at times I've been known to go a bit overboard
in one direction or another.

I suspect a great deal of the reason is that they want to concentrate on
one thing at a time - OO design is a lot to learn by itself, and trying
to learn to use color well at the same time might be a bit too much. At
the same time, it's quite true that the examples in a LOT of books are
_awfully_ dry...
