On 10-07-08, TIM RICHARDSON said to JOHN MASSEY: BK>>> I have seen that the Colorado base did have static A-10s, and an BK>>> A-10 flight assigned. I have not found out exactly when, but it BK>>> was around that time. TR>The first A-10's were sent to Davis-Monthan in Arizona sometime in the mid TR>1970's (about 1975 I think). TR>Sauer time `in' was 1978. TR>Since Ackley and Klahn seem to want to carry Sauer's part for him in TR>this... I will do some checking around and see what I can find. Ok.......I find that Lowry was being considered for closing down in 1978 (the year Sauer had his Air Force `career'). But the Air Force recommended it remain open. The issue kicked around for a time, and then the Air Force's recommendation was accepted, and Lowry remained open. The training programs were greatly expanded in the 1980's, and Lowry trained people on several war plane systems, including the A-10 Warthog. But that was *in the 1980's*! Sauer had been discharged a long time previously. I'm going to work on the `discharge *AT* Lowry'.....but issued *FROM* lackland next. That should be interesting. TR>Sauer appears to have lost his `voice' for the present.
