  That's what Mike does when he wants attention.  If you ignore that he hops on 
  Tsomething so he is eye level and "MEEEEOOOOOWWWWS" at you with
a look of 
  Tpure surprise and shock you aren't petting him.

Both my cats do that too.

Erin makes a real "meow," while Lucky still "mews" like a kitten.

I found Lucky, she had been abandoned already declawed.
But Erin, I trim his claws myself.

He reasonably lays still for the trimming, because after he gets a treat. 
Started that when he was a teeny kitten, he's about 3 now.
