Hi, Paul.
PE> PE> PE> It's not endless. Just ask Anthony. BFN. Paul.
PE> PE> FM> What does that mean? What did Anthony do? At first I
read/replied
PE> PE> Installed the software I told him to install, and never touched
PE> PE> it since.
PE> FM> So I noticed. Remarkable by his absence, is our Anthony.
PE> He polls every now and again. Anyway, he called regularly for 6
PE> months or something after he set up with the proper software.
PE> PE> It was all kludges. The proper technology has always been there,
PE> PE> it's just that it was a big secret kept by the elite. That is
PE> PE> no longer the case, and it's here to enjoy. Like going Alt-R and
PE> PE> it actually replies, netmail destination address + all.
PE> FM> OK, but how do I know this isn't just another kludge, even deeper
PE> FM> secrets known only to the elite?
PE> I've seen the PKTs that I get from Dave Hatch, which are the same
PE> as the PKTs that you get from me, and the information in them is
PE> all duplicated in the message readers.
PE> FM> What's the difference b/t minpdos & minpdos2, and why is there no
PE> FM> source?
PE> They each represent an installation using proper technology. There
PE> are lots of competing proper products. I think minpdos has the
PE> FD/Fmail/Golded suite of programs, which is BETTER, but shareware
PE> and you will have more trouble getting support. minpdos2 has a
PE> Binkley/Squish/Msged suite, which is not as good as the other one
PE> (still far superior to QWKing of course), there is a corresponding
PE> OS/2 version should you need it, and there is lots of support for
PE> it (because all the OS/2 people have to use it if they want to run
PE> OS/2). It is what I use except Tobruk has replaced Squish. Squish
PE> is the better program though, as far as an end user is concerned.
PE> If you follow either of the minpdos*'s EXACTLY, you should be up
PE> and running in 30 minutes or so, and replying to messages easily.
PE> The installations are designed to use the minimum disk space
PE> required, and they come to about 1 meg or something. BFN. Paul.
Can you tell me this. At the moment I use
1. Telix with a script to call TML.
2. PKTJOIN to merge all the packets together.
3. PKT2QWK to make them into QWKs.
4. OLX to read the messages.
5. OLX's inbuilt editor to write replies (but could configure it to
an external one of my choice).
6. OLX's Save function to store any messages I want to reply to but
not right now.
7. OLX's Export function to save to text files (let's call this
collection of text files a primitive "message base") any messages
I want to keep (relatively) permanently.
8. QWK2PKT to change the QWKs back into packets.
9. A batch file to run Telix, do the conversions, and other
housekeeping stuff like saving the inbounds in case there's a
problem in PKT2QWK etc.
10. A text editor to update TENMIN.TBL when necessary.
11. Ditto to create REQs and TICs when necessary.
12. Memory to remember to put the address in Netmail messages.
Which of those bits of software which you mention does which of those
functions? Which are *not* done? (Obviously 2/3/8/10 aren't necessary.)
PE> P.S. Anthony just polled today.
Hi, Anthony.
Regards, FIM.
