That was your major mistake.  Trying to apply logic to
gun control laws, and several others types, is an
effort in futility.

Unfortunately that's true.  But what can you expect?
For years the police told the people to "just give the
criminal what he wants, don't resist and you won't get
hurt".  That and being told in school "don't fight,
just walk [run] away from a bully and he can't hurt
you".  I heard/read a commit that I thought was
profound.  I can't remember exactly how it goes but
it's something like this:  Violence is NOT the solution
to everything BUT it is the ONLY solution to some
things.
