Yep.. IE in speed pascal.. You don't really need a great debugger.. A
very simplistic, Turbo-pascal like, Small debugger built in with stricter
syntax for less bugs :)
Virtual pascal is a very good compiler.. But the authors were being
Over-zealos with their compatability with Turbo/borland pascal. Such as the
16 bit ASM.. the MEM variable.. Absolute.. etc. These make it easier to
port over, But also FAR less stable.
(VP compiles much tighter and the linking includes less un-nessicary stuff.
You can see this in the 3-6k compaired to 16k or so in SP.. (for a
hello-world program.. PM version.. TP gives you around 5k on that..)(least
when i tried it a few months ago)
I have both... For my ports i port them to Speed first, then down to
virtual. It reduces the bugs. (going to speed first) and i really don't
care how much time i spend as long as i get a stable and bug-free port.
I'm not really going to be porting that much anyway, JSDoor, AP, and MKMSG.
perhaps even DDPlus on an outside chance.. Which amounts to less than
50,000 lines of code.. (ohh. maybe 75000)
I can see where it'd be helpful to use virtual's easier porting for people
who want to port ALL their code over. But i don't have a whole lot out
there.. and what i do have is all freeware. :) (yeah.. I don't have much
time to code.. )
The thing i like about Speed though...... The Tech support!! SpeedSoft USA
is one of the easiest groups i've ever had to get ahold of.. for anything..
All my questions get answered the next or same day by Email.. Blake is
always there on the phone..
(Eagerly awaiting 1.5 of SP, And the much tighter compiling it promises so
i can use VP less)
