Actually it works better without.
I had one up for about a year and it worked most of the East coast with no
problems at all.
A balun on this type of antenna would only tend to add losses and make for a
tuning nightmare so I avoided it and went to a straight co-ax feed and cut to
tune.
Starting with two 70 foot legs of wire it took less than an hour to tune it
up to 1.2 for 3750.
Total cost was less than $25 CDN to make from wire and scrap parts.
