CH> Shawn. The reason your cat didn't listen to you is two fold. First CH> cats and dogs go by non verbal language. Water or mild pepper spray CH> might have deterred your cat from the furniture. Having a good safe CH> (non loop type carpet) scratching post for the cat would have been SH> We did all that Cindy. As I explained in the message you (I assume) SH> didn't read. CH> helpful. De-clawing a cat is taking away their last defense. SH> Bull crap. They use their back feet for power. Besides what does Excuse me. Everyone is entitled to disagree, yet to maintain the ambience we all enjoy here in this echo, please refrain from use of profanity. I swear too sometimes, but not here. :) SH> an indoor cat who lives on the 18'th floor of a apartment building SH> need with claws? I understand this issue of de-clawing benefits the human and property only. Yet I submit as long as you keep your cat indoors always and keep him safe from possible harm having claws would protect him from- I suppose the benefits are justifiable. Please accept that some people differ with you. Some people would rather use other methods to keep their furniture safe and their cat happy. Cats have a natural desire to hunt/pounce/destroy. That's what scratching posts, water toys and stuffed animal toys are for. A bored cat will develop other problems just as bored people do. So you may find you need to meet his natural needs- claws or no claws. One argument for being against de clawing is what if your cat escaped his safe 18th Floor apartment. What would he have to defend himself with other than his hind legs. So .. okay all that is moot now. Just keep him safe and happy. :) CH> I'm surprised your vet agreed to do it. But then (sigh) some vets are CH> very desperate for money. SH> My goodness. Cindy, re-read your message and possibly respond SH> again when your not in such a fowl mood. You don't know my vet nor us SH> very I didn't say your vet. And yes I have a foul attitude toward vets these days. Vets in general. They all seem all too eager to get your money banking on our ignorance. That is to say: They look for something to run a test on and convince you your pet needs this test.... and it's very EXPENSIVE and of course nothing is found! So yeah you read me right there about vets. I'm very skeptical about them. :( It's better to do research and find out info from a non profiting type of animal health info service. We learned the hard way. SH> well. Yes I'm defensive in this message, as you clearly attacked me SH> in yours. I didn't attack YOU, I attacked the issue of de clawing. There's a similar issue with removing the dew claws from dogs but we could go to the FIDO Doghouse echo for that. :) Plus I'll tell you what the lesson was we learned the hard way wrt greedy VETS. PS: if your cat likes to 'play' with water, get one of those water toys. Cats have been known to know how to flip on lever type fauces hehe...and really run up the water bill. Cindy ...
