Good evening, ALL.
A couple of years ago, I got a copy of WP6.0 for DOS, as Mom was tired
of flipping back & forth in 5.1 to see what the output would look like,
and wanted to try WYSIWYG without having to resort to Windoze.
This "updated" version seems in some ways inferior to 5.1.
- It gets all-too-regular screen freezes, requiring reboots.
- "Unknown codes" occasionally appear in documents.
- Spell-checking (I've heard of this bug) once lost most of a document,
and re-opening what was left froze the machine.
- "View document" takes forever (relatively) to load something that
would be almost instant in 5.1, and scrolling around while viewing is
a joke... it re-writes the entire screen instead of just the new
portion as 5.1 would. Even multi-page thumbnails take too long,
particularly if graphic images are involved.
- When faxing, I can schedule a fax to be sent tomorrow, but there is
no way to cancel that "pending" fax from inside WP. Also, there's no
documentation on *receiving* faxes so I had to figure it out all by
myself (boo-hoo).
- Overall, it seems to be slower than 5.1 for most tasks, even though
I've done what the manual suggested to maximize speed, like loading
WP.FIL into memory at run-time (I've got 16 megs).
Enough crying, on to the questions...
I've seen mentions here of 6.0a, 6.0b, and 6.2, all for DOS.
Are these bug-fixes, upgrades, or just WPcorp/Novell/Corel logo changes?
Do they address any of the points I've mentioned?
Any responses, good or bad, muchly appreciated.
