SL> I finally had a batch of messages come through!!
Hi Sylvia!
So glad to see you've got Fido working again :)
SL> I finally finished my Star Challange Quilt. I spent way too much time
SL> on it. It was a learning experience. I will only use cotton batt in
SL> specific projects for the "look", or in machine quilted pieces.
Congrats on finishing the quilt. What kind of cotton batt did you
use? Harriet Hargrave's book, Heirloom Machine Quilting, has a
whole chapter on batting which I found quite useful. Actually, I
love the whole book :) Something that she mentioned was to get a
sample of every batt you want to use, quilt it like a mini-quilt,
and wash it with the family wash to see how you like the look and
wear after the many washings.
I got
SL> the eagle quilt all marked. My friend lent me her light box, and it
SL> worked very well. While I had it, I used it to mark a nine-patch that
SL> I have in the wings.
I had to look up how you'd use this for marking - I found out this
is done before sandwiching. I was thinking how can you mark a quilt
using the light box when you've got it sandwiched and basted. :) :)
SL> Last Sat. a bunch of quilters 9from my group went down to Springville
SL> for the opening of their annual show. It is one of the biggest shows
SL> in the state.
How nice to see other quilts - and all the ideas too!
Talking of quilts shows - Our fair board needs to get something to
display the quilts that are brought in. We don't have more than
15 entries but it would be nice to have them displayed properly.
I have an idea for a frame with double dowels on top. But I'm not
sure whether I should get this built. Have you seen other ways
we could display quilts? We cannot use hang from the ceiling idea.
