JM>>>> Then why did you say they could not fly with out one?

BK>>> I never said that. You do need to improve your reading skills.

 JM>> Yes you did.

BA> I believe the thread was that a military aircraft will not
BA> *take off* without operational radios. Which, AFAIK, is
BA> true. If a radio fails in flight, the aircraft obviously
BA> will continue flying and the pilot will hopefully be able
BA> to safely land it - but that isn't a given.

You gave it away. I was waiting for them to find the original
quotes, which would prove them wrong. Ok, you are probably
right, they would never even try to support their claims.

BA> When I was on flying status, a nonoperational radio was a
BA> ground abort if it couldn't be repaired or replaced prior
 BA> to scheduled mission takeoff.

Now you forgot to tell them that most aircraft carry more than
one radio. And if they had two, and one was out, the plane could
still fly, but would probably be scrubbed.

Most large planes carried VHF and UHF, and if they flew cross
ocean they would have HF. If they had two HF radios, and one was
out, that would probably be a scrub. If it was a passenger
carrying aircraft, it would certainly be a scrub.

Even some fighter aircraft carried HF radios.

Oh well, we just tried to educate them. I doubt it will take.
