subject: Hpfs on removable media

I remember from several years ago someone posting in one of the echo mail
conferences that he had written a set of utilities to allow him to use HPFS
with removable media, in the particular case floppy disks. I recall he in
particular had written a routine to dis-mount the floppy to correctly flush
all buffers and caches and of course a customized version of format to place
HPFS structures on the floppy.

In todays market with ZIP and other large removable drives I see the need
for such a utility. I don't want to even think about using FAT on a 1GB
removable drive with 32K clusters! IBM has released HPOFS (High Performance
Optical File System), but that appears targeted for magneto-optical drives
only with a list of a few included in the package.

Does anyone here remember the package I am thinking of? Has anyone
implemented this yet?

Dave
