If your brother doesn't have many programs on his hard disk he could
replace them with clean copies from the origional disks (write protect
them first!).  Afterwards he should check his floppies and get rid of
any infected program files he finds.
(Once again: one of the best and under-appreciated defense against
viruses  -- and many other problems --  is a good backup system!)
