Use Word's Search'n'Replace to replace
        ^p
with a space (or nothing).
Often one of these files will have 2 paragraph breaks to indicate
a true paragraph end (as distinct from a line end.) If so, you may
wish to replace
        ^p^p
with some character that doesn't appear in the document such as
Alt+174 (1/4 sign). Then replace all the single occurrances of ^p
with space, and finally replace Alt+174 with ^p to restore the
true paragraph breaks.
If you do this often, it would be worth you while recording this
as a macro.
