Well, he'll have to get an external modem, as there are no internal modems
made for those models. I don't think any internals were made for the big box
amigas past 2400 baud.
The modem you -don't- want is the USRobotics Sportster SI. The other USR
models are ok, but the SI model uses the IBM clone cpu to do the compression
and decompression, whereas other makes and models of external modems handle
that in the modem.
Then you need a terminal program for the Amiga, as the IBM ones will not run
on Amigas.
And then you need a cable that only runs the necessary lines to the modem, as
the Amiga's serial port has some voltages available that the IBMs don't, and
connecting them up could damage either the computer, the modem, or both.
I have an external 14.4K fax/modem with the correct serial cable and Amiga
software with the books for both the terminal program and the modem. The
brand is Best Data. I was using it on a 1200 until I upgraded to a 28.8K
Supra.
I will sell it to you, with the Amiga terminal program and Amiga serial
cable, for $50.00 US plus shipping, and COD if applicable. If you prepay with
a MO, I will cover the shipping UPS gnd within the 48 states.
