| subject: | How to kill SLOW Virus? |
Hello Everyone,
My Brother has a 286 with a 20meg Hard Drive. Don't laugh!
It does all he wants it to do. (Type Letters)
Recently I got him a modem so he could call my BBS for school
project material for his kids. I told him the first things he needed to
download were the archivers and a couple of virus scanners. Both scanners
were trashed on his system and refused to operate.
I managed to get hold of a clean wrtie protected boot disk
with Scan and Clean (CIRCA 1990) It found and was able to clean the SLOW
virus I was able to install TBAV on the Hard Drive to protect any further
dammage. As long as the command processor was not called from the
Hard Drive, there were no signs of a virus.
Alas whenever the hard drive boots TBAV gives three
warnings about a virus trying to attach itself and change the seconds
stamp etc. (Every time an executable is run) By pressing Y three times no
apparent damage is done.
I thought "I'm going to kill this sucker."
I guess I was wrong.First I deleted command.com from the Hard Drive.
Second rebooting from a clean write protected floppy and loading TBAV
I decided to re SYS the Hard Drive.
Half way through the process TBAV came up with the familar warnings.
Short of reformatting the Hard Drive, Innoculating all the floppies and
reinstalling, IS THERE A WAY TO KILL THE SLOW VIRUS?
Thanks,
Larry
