Oh oh. So far, it's WEATHER: 1000000 MAN: 2 or thereabouts. :-)

Oh geez..... Using the Internet to acquire knowledge and to communicate with
others is NOT akin to smoking......

It can be....yes. So can wine..... or television.... or computers.... etc.

You can do that anyway...... private dicks do it for a living, long before
the Internet.

THAT is a personal problem. Alcohol is a problem to some; not to others. So
is everything else.

KK> Yes I have have my COCO's... And as long as they serve my needs... I

It only takes a few to make a "herd". :-)
KK> But to group that with bein' against the development of the I-net

Good grief! 19.2-kbps for an Internet connection? You've got to be kidding?
That's utterly silly even though it might bring the Internet to a few more
people. If they like it, they'll dump their CoCo's and jump on PC's.....
KK> Maby once I dig into the MSDOS and Windoz and get an understanding of

KK> yer doing???
Do you REALLY know what's going on inside as you watch your TV? Or drive
your car? Or make whoopee with the good woman? Or eat a peanut butter
sandwich? Or breath the fresh night air? Or study a history book? Or record
a scanner event? Or just listen to a scanner event?
The important thing is to be DOING SOMETHING USEFUL AND PRODUCTIVE. Getting
mired and bogged down in the software that helps make it happen isn't all
that germane to a writer; an engineer; a historian; a scientist; or a janitor
just trying to get ahead in Life. You don't have to know a thing about a
library to check out and read the books it offers.
KK> I don't think so. The software does it for you! Too damn easy...
And your internal combustion engine powers your car.....doubtful you know
much beyond the basics of THAT. Likewise with radio, TV, dishwashers,
guitars, harmonicas, and a zillion other things that make Life better for
you. You are, no doubt an expert at a few things......but what about the
innards of the rest? Does that mean you don't drive because you don't
understand the intricasies of internal combustion? Or don't listen to radios
because you don't understand the electrical engineering?
KK> I'd rather walk on solid ground and know the inside as well as the
KK> outside of my file structure. Floating was never good enough for
KK> me... Any one can do that!
Tell me that you understand the innards of every aspect of Life that you
indulge in.
The innards of a computer are not important to those who simply want to use a
computer as a tool to communicate with others and to enlarge their knowledge
base.
WHAT a computer can DO *is* important. Even if you can get on the Internet
at 19.2-kbps, you will be getting on a freeway with a derned old horse. It
will be a good start in this case.....but you need that 386 (not a CoCo) to
do the muscle work.
By the way.....my Internet connection is now 24-hrs a day/7-days a week at
Ethernet speeds of 10-Mbps. I downloaded the 3.02 version of MS Internet
Explorer in 18-secs on a bad day. The size was over 10-MBytes!!! It would
take you 83-hours to do that at 19.2-kbps.
In a word, you are concentrating on mastering a 3/8" box-end wrench when the
world is floating with Crescent wrenches and ratchet/socket sets with
pneumatic drives.
THINK about it.
