Hi All,
Well I'm going to try something new.. sponge painting. I've got 4 newly
painted white walls begging for some attention!
I used an oil paint as the base coat in white. Now I'm going to take my wall
paper down to the paint shop and have them custom color my sponge paint to
match it. The paint will be an oil base too.
The I take my sea sponge.... hmmm now this sponge should be kinda wet or
softened before I dip it into the paint... or will it soften as the paint
clings to it? ... could I put some thinner on the sponge?
The problem here is that I don't want a big blob the first time I touch the
wall. So I guess a test run is in order..I'll let you know how it turned out
I was told too, that I could use some thinner in the paint, so it won't be
too thick either. I could use a glaze in the paint if I wanted to make the
paint slightly transparent too. There is a specail glaze for latex and one
for oil.
The glaze makes the paint also remain wetter longer... so if you want to
"smoosh" instead of sponge it gives you a little more time to apply the
plastic and remove it.
I was thinking about rag rolling but I didn't want to get paint up to my
elbows! Maybe that is just me....hmmmmmmmmm
Anyways... anyone ever try this? Can you give me some tips on "What not to
o"
Good thing I'm trying this in a bedroom... but if it turned out really nice,
I'm going to try it in the livingroom..
Oh I'm only doing the first three feet from the floor...then I'm putting up a
chair rail type wood strip and putting a stencil design just above it.
Keeping my finger crossed it turns out!
Thanks for any info you can share with me.
Gail
