 Back in mid July, last year, I mentioned that Hardegree had not
 made Lt Col. Jeff B said Hardegree had not claimed to be  lt
 Col, and suggested I had confused him with V.Humphrey.

 Stan Posted to Jeff, "Vern also retired a major". The "also"
 makes the implication that hardegree had retired a major.
